TOMIÑO, A PARADISE BETWEEN VALLEYS, RIVERS AND HILLS
Tomiňo is set in the old land of Turonium and superficies 106.6 km². Tomiňo is a municipality in the province Pontevedra that belongs to the Baixa Miňo region. Its population of around 12.000 inhabitants is distributed among 134 districts which are grouped together into 15 parishes. Viláchan is part of the parish Tomiňo (Sta María).
Tomiňo has enviable scenic areas together with its warm climate, its feasts and fairs and a rich gastronomy with the ‘Rias Baixas’ Denomination of Origin wines, a must on any table.
Tomiňo sits under the shelter of several mountains and is located in the heart of the Miňo valley, a borderland of Spain with Portugal. Visitors will enjoy a picturesque, shining and typical ‘miňoto’ (named after the Miňo river) landscape. You will experience the charm of the country side, not only of the inner parishes but also those whose panoramic view turn towards Portugal.
The land is watered by several trout rivers that flow to the Miňo. They are of recognized importance, as far as fish farming and angling is concerned. The tributaries of the Miňo are famed for their trout fishing. The river is an incomparable backdrop to all types of water sport, such as canoeing and waterskiing. Small pleasure boats also cruise the Miňo during the summer allowing another aspect to this geographical panorama.
The town also boasts a remarkable forest richness that, together with its birdlife and quiet splendour allow for relaxing, easy activities such as trekking and mountain biking.
